Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for Children and Young People (Ages 11–18)

Childhood and adolescence can be challenging years. Academic pressure, social expectations, emotional changes and health concerns can all impact a young person’s wellbeing. I work with children and young people aged 11 to 18, offering Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to support their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing in a calm, supportive and age-appropriate way.

My approach helps young people understand how their mind works, feel more in control of their thoughts and emotions, and build confidence in their ability to cope with life’s challenges.

A Safe, Ethical and Professional Service

The wellbeing and safety of young people is always my highest priority.

Parental consent is required for all clients under the age of 18

For insurance and safeguarding purposes, a parent, carer or legal guardian must be present at all therapy sessions

From the early teenage years, parents or guardians may sit in another room during the session if appropriate, provided they are present at the start of the appointment

I hold a fully enhanced DBS check

I am fully insured

I am registered with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)

This ensures therapy is delivered to the highest professional and ethical standards, giving parents and young people peace of mind.

How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Helps Young People

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a forward-looking, practical and gentle approach. Rather than focusing on problems or past experiences, we concentrate on what the young person wants to feel different and how they want their life to improve.

Sessions combine:

Clear, simple explanations of how the brain and nervous system work

Practical tools to support emotional regulation

Gentle hypnosis to promote deep relaxation and positive change

All sessions are tailored to the young person’s age, language, understanding and personality.

Areas I Support Young People With

I work with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and physical challenges, including:

Anxiety and stress relief

Confidence building and self-esteem

Insomnia and sleep difficulties

Performance management, including preparation for exams, competitions or performances

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Weight management

Chronic pain

Panic attacks

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Migraines

Phobias

General relaxation and emotional regulation

Each programme is personalised, recognising that no two young people experience difficulties in the same way.

How Sessions Work

Sessions for children and young people follow the same structure as adult sessions, but are carefully adapted to suit their level of understanding.

Initial Consultation

An initial consultation is required before therapy begins. This is particularly important when working with young people. It allows me to:

Gather information about what the young person would like help with

Understand their personality, interests, likes and dislikes

Assess their level of understanding and communication style

Ensure therapy is appropriate and tailored effectively

This session helps build trust and ensures the young person feels comfortable and supported from the very beginning.

Ongoing Sessions

Each session is relaxed and conversational. Everything is explained clearly and at a pace that suits the young person. Hypnosis is a natural, calm state where they remain fully aware and in control at all times. Many young people describe sessions as feeling peaceful, calming and reassuring.

Online and In-Person Appointments

I offer therapy:

Online, allowing young people to access support from the comfort of their own home

In person in North Leeds every Tuesday, for clients who prefer face-to-face sessions

Both formats are equally effective, and sessions follow the same structure and standards of care.

Supporting Young People Now and for the Future

Hypnotherapy has become increasingly recognised as a useful complementary therapy for individuals with a diagnosis of ADHD. While it does not replace medical or educational support, it can play a valuable role in helping young people manage their symptoms more effectively.

In brief, hypnotherapy may support young people with ADHD by:

Encouraging relaxation, which can help improve focus and concentration.

Supporting impulse regulation by promoting calm, mindful responses.

Reducing anxiety and stress, which often intensify ADHD symptoms.

Improving sleep quality, supporting better focus and emotional balance during the day.

Boosting self-esteem by reinforcing a positive self-image and self-acceptance.

Sessions are always adapted to suit the young person’s attention span, interests and individual needs.
